Allen Robert Moir

January 9 1945 - December 30 2022

Peacefully at Andy’s house on Friday, December 30, 2022 in his 78 year. Al, loving husband to the late Marion.  Dear father, to Michael and his wife, Terri and Douglas and his wife, Robyn. He will be fondly remembered by his grand children, Bradley, Tanner, Jackson, and Caleb. The last 10 years have been spent with a special partner, Marge Sanborn.

Allen grew up in Cobourg Ontario with his dad (Ray), mom (Bessie), and big brother (Lynn). Growing up on the shores of Lake Ontario he was always mucking around finding new ways to get dirty and waiting for the dinner bell to literally ring. As he got older things didn’t change much. Just instead of running around by foot, “Fuzz” hopped into his Bronco with his buddies doing his favourite thing, chasing women.

It was in Cobourg where he met Ruth Barrie and marrying her in 1967 was one of his happiest moments in his life.  Together they started their lives in Scarborough where he was a purchaser at SKF then changed careers to driving a bus for the TTC; receiving multiple commendations for safe driving. While this was going on he started his first passion project of building a cottage here in Gravenhurst on Muldrew Lake. With the help of family and friends this was completed in the early 70’s. However, like all Moir projects there was always a new project around the corner.

Allen and Ruth had two sons, Michael and Douglas. His family was the one thing in his life that he was most proud of; and his two sons and four grandchildren were the apples of his eye.  He was also super proud of his cottage and would often say he worked to afford the gas so he could go for a chug around the lake or water skiing.  On any given weekend you could find him either behind the wheel of the boat or mucking around in the brush with the never-ending projects.

After his kids left home and he and Ruth retired to live year-round at the cottage they embarked on his second passion… RVing. With the purchase of their 1st Airsteam Ruth and Al hit the road being snowbirds and traveled between rallies, enjoying Texas & Arizona. Together Allen and Ruth spent 44 loving years together before her passing in 2011.

Widowed, his passion of RVing continued and brought him and the 2nd love of his life, Marge Sanborn.  They met in 2014 and the two quickly became inseparable travelling together between the United States and Canada.  Al was welcomed with open arms into Marge’s family, and they were his family away from home.  In his last days, Marge ensured Al was comfortable and taken care of by being by his side at Andy’s House.

Throughout all of the treatments, chemotherapy, radiation and procedures, Allen repeatedly said he was the luckiest man alive to have had the privilege to have found love not just once but twice.

Allen will fondly be remembered as a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Visitation will be at the Cavill funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service to celebrate Al’s life will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11 AM. Private burial will take place in the spring.
