Barbara Sutherland

Barbara Sutherland (August 11, 1943 - February 25, 2018) It is with great sorrow we share the news that our Mom, Barbara Anne Sutherland, died unexpectedly of heart complications on Sunday, February 25. She was the much-loved daughter of Bud & Dode Johnson, and the life partner of Peter Sutherland, whom she lost in 2014. Born and raised in Toronto, Barb worked at various careers: as a junior public teacher with the Toronto School Board, as a teller for the Bank of Montreal, and as a customer service representative for Mastercard. She was also a stay-at-home mom for many years, to the benefit of her two daughters. Retirement brought Barb and Pete to Gravenhurst, where they embraced just about everything. Barb became involved with Music at the Barge, Communities in Bloom, and the Gravenhurst Public Library. Two years ago, Barb discovered the wonderful community of people at the Gravenhurst Seniors Centre. Barbara leaves behind two daughters, Robin (Don) and Nikki (Steve), two grandsons, Liam and Kieran, and three grand-dogs, Brontë, Bingley, and Darcy. She also leaves behind her younger brother, Rob (Peggy). A memorial service will be held at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst On Saturday May, 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Messages of condolence can be offered to the family at www.cavillfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, we think Barbara would appreciate a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
