Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Ann Thompson (Kolochuk) who died peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Andy’s House Hospice Muskoka in Port Carling, Ontario in her 71st year.

Betty was the beloved wife of Douglas Keith Thompson (predeceased), stepmom to David and Tiffany (predeceased).

Betty was the youngest daughter of Roy and Annie Kolochuk.

She is survived by her siblings, sisters Olga (predeceased) and Patricia (Wayne) Carpenter, and brothers Ray (Mary) Kolochuk, Ron (Lynn) Kolochuk. She will also be remembered by her nieces Dianna and Julie, and nephews Ryan and Gavin and their children.

Betty was born in St Catherines. She retired from GM Motors and moved north to live with her husband Douglas and settled in Gravenhurst.

Betty lived a full life, enjoyed music, and travel - several memorable trips over the years to the east coast with her sister Patricia. She travelled to Cuba – and Jerusalem.

Betty’s sense of adventure, sense of humor and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. She will be missed by all.

The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate and devoted care provided by Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Home Dialysis Unit, Paramed – thru Ontario Health at Home who supported and provided comfort to Betty daily for 16 years.

The family extends their warmest thanks to the compassionate nurses who honored Betty with a walk-out procession at the time of her passing, accompanied by her favorite band, The Beatles, and her beloved song, “Let It Be.”
