Edith “Beulah” Anne Sopher passed away peacefully at Oak Terrace Long Term Care Home in Orillia on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Beulah was born March 4, 1945 in Timmins Ontario to Nellie Hillyard and Joseph Greatrix and was given the name of Dorothy Mildred Greatrix. She was later adopted at the age of 4 by Elmer and Grace Goheen and renamed Edith Beulah Anne Goheen. We often teased her that she had more names than anyone else we knew.
Beulah was the beloved mother of Darren Sopher and Sylvia Bee (Darcy). Loving grandmother of Liam (Amae), Justice, Jeremiah, Trinity, Nicole, Joshua, Hannah and Logan. She is survived by her former spouse Sheldon Sopher, two brothers, Raymond Goheen and Andrew Greatrix, and two sisters-in-law Shirley Petch and Shirley Goheen. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her siblings, Bill, William, Joseph (Fred), Valerie, Karen, Bob, and Marjorie.
Beulah was a very caring and friendly woman. To her, strangers were just friends she hadn’t met yet. She was very social and outgoing. She enjoyed participating in activities at the Ryde Co-op and joined a Gravenhurst writing group. She genuinely cared about people and prayed for them regularly. Her faith was always an integral part of her, woven into all aspects of her life. She persevered through many health and personal problems following the Biblical command to “Be joyful always”.
Beulah was proud of her career as a PSW, serving her mother, and then serving her community. She became affectionately known as “the crazy goat lady”. Due to some of her favorite memories from early childhood helping her mother care for their goats with her brother Andrew, she later raised goats herself and collected anything goat related.
Special thanks to Joanne and Evelyn who visited her regularly and the staff at Oak Terrace LTC who went above and beyond to show kindness and compassion on a daily basis.
A Memorial Service will be held at Ryde Free Methodist Church on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Ryde Free Methodist Church would be appreciated and may be arranged through Cavill Funeral Home.
