Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher Long on May 4, 2026. Chris was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family.

Christopher will be deeply missed by his beloved children, Leah, Wesley, and Scott, as well as his cherished step-grandchildren, Carter, Sienna, Tyler, and Olivia. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Audrey, his father, Wesley. Christopher also leaves behind his siblings Pam, Tom, Rick, Brenda, Penny, and Sandy. He was a proud father-in-law to Chris, Shirleen, and Kyle, and his loyal dog and constant companion, Mando, was truly his best friend.

Chris lived a full and hardworking life with a diverse and dedicated career. He trained as a Chef at Georgian College and worked at The Muskoka Centre, Sloan’s, and Andre’s. He later pursued his passion for the outdoors, becoming a Forest Technician through Sir Sandford Fleming College and working with the Ministry of Natural Resources. His path continued in public service as a Case Worker for ODSP with the Ontario Public Service, and as a Correctional Officer at Fenbrook Institution. In later years, he found enjoyment operating heavy equipment as an Excavator Operator with Long’s Landscaping.

Christopher found great joy in the simple but meaningful moments in life. He loved working alongside his son Wesley, operating and repairing Kubota tractors and excavators, and spending time behind the wheel of his truck. Campfires with family and friends brought him peace, and he could always unwind watching his favourite superhero, sci-fi, and kung-fu movies.

A man of many skills and interests, Chris enjoyed building bushcraft kits, tying ropes and knots, and watching “Working Horses with Jim.” He was also a gifted storyteller, sharing tales of piloting planes, driving his Cutlass, racing motorcycles, and caring for horses—stories that will live on in the hearts of those who heard them.

In keeping with Christopher’s spirit, donations in his memory may be made to the Kubota North Excavator Rodeo or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

He will be remembered for his strength, his stories, his quiet guidance, and his unwavering love for his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service and eulogies at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
