Gravenhurst

David Jeffrey Brent, 83, of Gravenhurst passed away peacefully on June 3rd, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Dave grew up in Breslau, became a Teacher in Kitchener, and married Carolyn (nee Hager). They moved to Gravenhurst in 1973 with their two young children where he accepted a position in the Industrial Arts Department at Gravenhurst High School– a position that he held proudly until his retirement in 1997. He and Lyn enjoyed many years as Snowbirds and loved adventuring through many of the Southern States.

He participated in many sports including curling, hockey, slow pitch baseball, watersports, fishing, and golf. He was a talented woodworker and created many beautiful pieces of furniture and other treasures. He loved to be challenged with word and picture puzzles as well as mahjong and sudoku.

Dave loved music and along with Lyn, was a Founding Member of the Bifocals Concert Band as well as an active participant in the Elderberries Choir. Dave will be dearly missed but always remembered.

Dave is survived by his daughters Kathi and Karen, his sons-in-law Conroy and Paddy, his grandchildren Patrick, Jacob, and Jessica and their spouses Felicia, Aliya, and Brett, as well as his beloved Great Grandson, Caleb.

Both Dave and his wife Lyn were active members of the St. James Anglican Church in Gravenhurst and participated in many of their community programs as well as sang in the Choir.

Dave felt strongly about supporting Healthcare Organizations and donated regularly to many local Hospital Foundations. The Family will be forever grateful for the kind and committed professionals that he encountered over the past few years. In recognition of the excellent care and support, he himself received, please consider donating in his name to Andy’s House-Hospice Muskoka, the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, or Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation. You may also consider donating in his name to St. James Anglican Church in honour of his years as a parishioner.

For those interested in attending, a Celebration of Life will be held at St. James Anglican Church on August 23rd at 11am.
