After a day surrounded by family, spending precious time, Donna Jean Barnes passed away very peacefully with her daughter, Lorie, by her side at Andy’s House – Hospice Muskoka on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the age of 72.
Donna was the beloved mother of Lorie, Dwayne (Jodie), Harold, and Trina (Scott). Cherished grandmother of Justin (Katherine), Jacob (Alissa), Kaycee (Rachelle), Cole (Ashley), Matthew (Breanna), Mason, and Amber. She also had the privilege of welcoming four great-grandchildren: Sadie, Waylon, Nathan, and Joshua. Donna is also survived by her siblings, Priscilla, Lorne (Gail), Wayne (Kandy), and Ron (Kathy). She was predeceased by siblings, Marie (Ed), Gloria, Roger, and Brian, as well as her parents, Alf and Dorothy Barnes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Donna was fierce in life and love for her family, steady in her strength, and unwavering in her devotion. She lived for her children, her grandchildren, and every soul she gathered along the way. Family was her world, and nothing brought her more joy than having everyone together under one roof. She had a gift for turning a simple house into a true home. Her doors were always open, her arms always ready, and her kitchen and heart were never closed.
Strong, spirited, and full of life, she stood her ground and lived with pride; always showing those around her how to love fiercely, speak honestly, and hold family close. The lessons she gave, both gentle and tough, shaped generations who will carry her strength forward.
She loved to sing, filling her home with music and warmth. Her laugh was contagious, her smile unforgettable, and her presence larger than life. She created memories in ordinary moments and made each person feel special and seen.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing her love remains woven into the fabric of our family. Her legacy lives on in every shared meal, every song sung a little too loudly, every open door, and every act of fierce, unconditional love.
She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered as the beautiful, strong woman who held her family together with pride and grace.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring. Memorial donations made to Andy’s House – Hospice Muskoka (https://www.hospicemuskoka.com/andyshouse) or South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (https://www.healthmuskoka.ca/) would be appreciated and may be arranged online or through Cavill Funeral Home.
