Dr. Chute

September 10, 1948 — December 6, 2017

Dr. Terence W. Chute Sept. 10, 1948 - Dec. 6, 2017 Dr. Terry Chute passed away peacefully at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 surrounded by loving friends and family. Pre-deceased by his father Kenneth Chute and mother Nellie Chute (nee Heath). Terry leaves a legacy of love: led by his wife Marilyn, his children; Tanya, Mark, Dawn and Joanna and grandchildren Olivia, Miles, Sophie, Lily, Clarke, Abigail and Elliott. His sister Joan Chute and her family, Tim, Tama, Philip and Paul and their families also mourn his loss. Dr Terry Chute was born in Toronto, ON on Sept. 10, 1948. His earliest memories focus largely on time at the beloved family cottage on Mortimer's Point Road, Port Carling. Terry studied first at McMaster University where he met his soul mate and wife, Marilyn. He then went on to medical school at the University of Western Ontario. A tradition of mission service in his family led Terry to be called to serve first in Baie Verte, NL, and then in Shirati, Tanzania. The family returned to Gravenhurst in 1987 where Terry established his family practice with Dr. David Hillyard and Dr. Ardyn Todd. Terry was a devoted physician, well loved by his many patients. He retired from medicine in 2006. His focus then shifted to serving his fellow man through fundraising and mission work in Akividu province, India. This was the home of the mission work of his grandparents;Dr. Pearl and Rev. Jesse Chute. Terry's efforts and fundraising through "Nehemiah's Projects" contributed to infrastructure improvements in schools, hospitals and community centres in the region and supported the growing Christian Church in India. Locally, Terry and Marilyn also helped found the West Muskoka Food Bank and have both worked tirelessly to serve the local area in this manner. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire care team at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for their loving care, respect and support throughout this time. Thank you also to the wonderful circle of friends who offered support, prayers and love. According to Terry's wishes, organ donation was pursued, followed by cremation. Visitation will occur on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at the Cavill Funeral Home in Gravenhurst from 6-8pm.
