Edwin “Ed” Hatch passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge, Ontario.
Born in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, on September 15, 1941, Ed later made Canada his home, living in Ontario for more than 60 years. He embraced life fully and formed lasting friendships wherever he went.
A passionate rugby player, Ed proudly played for the Toronto Saracens, sharing the game—and many memorable moments—with teammates, including Mel James. Rugby remained an important part of his identity, reflecting his love of teamwork, camaraderie, and sport.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Eddie and Annie Hatch. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Tara McGory, and her husband, Tom; his son, Craig Hatch, and daughter‑in‑law, Lesley‑Anne; and his treasured granddaughters, Teagan and Hannah, who brought him great joy and pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Audrey Smith, and her husband, Geoff; his sister, Maureen Bailey, and her husband, Ron; and by his many nieces and nephews.
Ed will be remembered for his loyalty, strength of character, and the meaningful connections he made throughout his life. He always kept his sense of humour, even through his many challenges. Ed will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
