Helen Humenick passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, in Gravenhurst, Ontario, at the age of 87. She was born in 1938 in Newmarket, Ontario.
Helen was a beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eugene “Gene” Humenick. Helen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nadine Briscoe, and her cherished grandchildren, Claire (Drew), Jonathon, and Peter. She was a proud “Big Baba” to Jasper, Felix, and Layla, who brought her immense joy.
She is also survived by her sister, Lois Bainbridge, and will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Shelagh (Dave), Brooke, Leslie (Bryne), and Brad (Carolyn), along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Marie McCabe and daughter-in-law Susie Young.
Helen lived a full and adventurous life. She began her career in the travel industry, which gave her the opportunity to live in Jamaica and the Bahamas. It was in the Bahamas where she met Gene, the love of her life, and they married in 1974. Together, they built a life filled with love and companionship.
Upon returning to Canada, Helen and Gene settled in the Aurora area, where Helen established a successful career in real estate. In retirement, they made their home in Gravenhurst, embracing a quieter pace of life.
Helen found great joy in golfing, singing, playing bridge, volunteer work for the hospital, baking for church bazaars and Happy Hour martinis with her sister Lois. She will be remembered for her warmth, her lively spirit, and her deep love for family and friends.
A private family celebration of Helen’s life will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation.
