It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jennie Nice (née Stout) on July 24, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by her loving family at Andy’s House in Port Carling.

Jennie was born in Nelson, B.C., to John Edward Stout and Marjorie McGregor Stout, and was raised in Bowmanville, Ont. While attending teachers college, she met the love of her life, Richard (Rick) Nice. Together, they built a life grounded in love, family and learning as they raised their three children. After establishing her teaching career, Jennie continued her education at York University.

Jennie devoted her career to education, believing deeply in the potential of every child. She approached both teaching and life with patience, kindness, compassion and quiet encouragement, leaving a lasting impression on the many students whose lives she touched.

Following retirement, Jennie and Rick made their cottage on Kahshe Lake in Gravenhurst their permanent home. She quickly became a valued member of the community, generously volunteering countless hours with the Ryde Community Co-operative. She helped shape the organization into what it is today and played an instrumental role in the creation of the Ryde Barn Quilt Trail. One of the causes closest to her heart was ensuring that seniors and neighbours remained connected, and she gave freely of her time to help strengthen those bonds within the community.

Jennie embraced life with curiosity, creativity and an eagerness to learn. Whether she was knitting, sewing, baking, gardening, taking photographs, decorating cakes, making wine, scuba diving or line dancing, she approached each new interest with enthusiasm. She will be remembered for her busy hands, generous spirit and the many talents she so willingly shared with family, friends and her community.

Above all else, Jennie cherished her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching her children and grandchildren grow.

Jennie is lovingly remembered by her children, Kerry (Dianne), Alison and Amber (David); her grandchildren, Cleora, Kiley, Brayden, Trevor, Porter and Ainsley; her brother, Tom (Cathy) Stout; as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents.

Jennie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In keeping with Jennie’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held in September, with details to be shared with family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully welcomes donations to Andy’s House in honour of the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity shown to Jennie and her family.
