Obituary

Madeline Doreen LeBlancMarch 28, 1936 – November 14, 2025

Madeline passed peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Andy’s House in Port Carling, at the age of 89. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose love, strength, and generosity touched countless lives.

She was the loving mother of Rhonda Middlebrooks (Bob), Bob Appleton (late Mary Ellen), Rick Appleton (late Susan), John LeBlanc, Peter LeBlanc, Lesa LeBlanc, and Mike LeBlanc. She was cherished by her 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Madeline was predeceased by her mother, Elsie Christine Wilson (Barnes); her grandparents, Annie and Nuttal Barnes; her brother, Bruce Wilson; her sons, Mark Appleton and Rick’s twin at birth; and her grandson, Nathan Appleton.

Throughout her life, Madeline worked many jobs while raising her eight children. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—crocheting and working on jigsaw puzzles until her hands could no longer manage, and taking road trips with her mother across the north in search of blueberries. When she found a good berry patch, she was quick to call the family, soon gathering a group to join her for the adventure. She loved camping and fishing along the way, as well as picking strawberries to share or to sell to those who couldn’t make it to the fields.

Madeline’s greatest passion, however, was baking butter tarts. Fondly known as “The Butter Tart Lady” of Gravenhurst, she shared her famous treats with doctors, bank staff, and anyone who had shown her kindness. For Madeline, baking was never just a hobby—it was an expression of gratitude and love.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Madeline throughout her life. In her memory, donations to Andy’s House – Hospice Muskoka would be greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be held at Cavill Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, from 5:00–7:00 PM, and again on Saturday, November 29, from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM.The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Cavill Funeral Home
