Johnson, Maurice William, loving husband of Joan for almost 70 years, father of Barbara of St. George, Bill (Cheryl) of Stouffville, Bob (Brenda) of Newmarket, and Bonnie (Doug Burrell) of Pickering.  Predeceased by Joan in August 2023.  Sister to Phyllis Rattle of Willowdale and brother-in-law to Victor Chapman of Ottawa.  Predeceased by sister-in-law Jean Chapman.  Proud grandfather of nine grandchildren – Marlee, Bradley, Stephen, Tim, Keara, Jenny, Melissa, Brian and Heather-Ann.  Also, great-grandfather to Carter, Rylan, Crosby, Ava, Liam, and Monica.  Maurice passed away on Saturday December 16th at Muskoka Shores Community Care in Gravenhurst.

Alumni of the University of Toronto, Maurice enjoyed a successful career as a teacher and principal with the North York Board of Education.  Maurice loved his family, sports and music!  In his younger years he was a talented baseball and hockey player, and sang in the St. Stephen’s church choir with his dad.  Maurice loved square dancing, coaching hockey teams, curling, bowling, playing harmonica and performing with the Scarborough Choral Society in their annual shows.  He was a member of the Washago Seniors Club for many years enjoying numerous bus trips and singing with the choir.  He and Joan also travelled the world with the cruise ships of Holland America on many voyages including a World Cruise on the Rotterdam in 2001.

Maurice and Joan’s final wishes were to return together to the Sparrow Lake area where they met at Stanton House over 70 years ago.  A small family gathering will take place to celebrate his many accomplishments during his long and wonderful life!
