Paul Conron

October 7, 1942 — September 28, 2017

Paul Roy Conron of Gravenhurst passed away peacefully at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Paul was born in Toronto on October 7, 1942, and celebrated his 75th birthday early in the hospital with all of his family around him. Paul earned his B.A. from the University of Toronto and began his teaching career in Toronto before moving to Simcoe and the Norfolk Board of Education, where he primarily taught Grade 7-8 in several schools. He retired in 1997 and will be fondly remembered by many students. For over 25 years in Norfolk, he was very active in the Ontario Public School Teachers' Federation. His creative outlet during that time was Simcoe Little Theatre; sitting on the Board and running the bar in addition to acting, producing and directing over 30 plays. He was also very interested in medieval English history and enjoyed attending plays at the Stratford Festival for over 60 years. In addition to this, he spent many hours playing cribbage, euchre, and especially chess with family and friends. Paul was loved and will be deeply missed by his wife Sara and by his children: Lauri Harvey (Jay), David Conron (Elizabeth), Owen Conron (Laura), Scott Walters (Katherine), and Katie Walker (Dave). Further survived by 7 loving grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, his brother Peter Conron (Lou) and his mother Marion Conron (age 97) along with numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and former spouse Barbara Smith. Paul was predeceased by his father, Roy Wilson Conron, (1994) and by his best friend, Peter Sutherland (2014). In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Branch in Bracebridge. Visitation will be at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on Sunday, October 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held there on Monday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Mickle Memorial Cemetery on Lofty Pines Drive in Gravenhurst and a reception at Hahne Hall in Pine Ridge at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in October in Simcoe, Ontario, for all of Paul's friends and relatives in Southern Ontario.
