Peter Joseph Stanley Corcoran, born August 18, 1930, in Kearney, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling, Ontario, at the age of 95, with his family by his side.
Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, June Ellen Holmes. Together they built a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.
He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He leaves behind his children: Garnet (late Judy), Penny (Rick Thompson), and Grant (Kathy). He was a proud grandfather to Jake (Brittany), Jade (Nolan Byrne), Kyla, and Kalene (Skyler Steven), and a cherished great-grandfather to Judah, Knox, Leo, Violet, Millie, and Krew. He is also survived by his siblings: Francis (Monroe Wolfe), Janice (Howard Sheppard), and Garnet (Helen Spiers).
Peter began his working life at a young age in the wood mills, back when logging was done with horses and crosscut saws. With determination and skill, he went on to build a career in construction, operating heavy equipment of all kinds. He earned his Hoisting Engineer License and worked on major projects both on land and water. Among the many projects he contributed to were the opening of Sherman Mines in Temagami, Ontario Place, the C.N.E. in Toronto, and the rock cut at Milford Bay on Highway 118.
Later, wanting to spend more time at home, Peter founded Corcoran Trucking alongside his son Grant. This venture became an important and fulfilling chapter of his life until his retirement.
Peter had a true love for travel, especially in his motor home with his wife June and family. He had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life—never more so than during his daily 5 o’clock “happy hour,” often enjoyed with a cigar and a smile.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and PSWs at Muskoka Algonquin Hospital, the caring staff at James Street Retirement Residence, and the exceptional team of doctors, nurses, PSWs, and volunteers at Andy’s House Hospice for their compassionate care during Peter’s final days.
Peter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Cavill Funeral Home.
