Ronald Cooper

October 29, 1928 — January 26, 2022

Gravenhurst

Passed away peacefully at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge.  Beloved husband of Olive (Husselstrom) for over 66 years. Dear father of Stephen (Katrin) and Susan Nicholson (Brian).  Cherished grandpa of Erin Nicholson (Kris).  Ron will be missed by his sister Elizabeth “Betty” and brother-in law Ron Donnelly and many nieces and nephews.  Ron was the son of the late Arthur and Alice Cooper (Alderton).

Ron was a founding member of the Halton County Radial Railway.  He had a passion for fixing up old streetcars, most often with his wife Olive at his side.   Their work can be enjoyed by everyone who visits the “streetcar museum” today.  Ron had a wealth of knowledge on streetcars and trains and he was a talented woodworker and handyman.

Ron grew up in the Beach area of Toronto.  He raised his family in Scarborough but his heart was at Ryde Lake in Muskoka where Olive and him had a cottage, which became their retirement home at age 65.

Many thanks to Dr. Richardson and the nurses at the Bracebridge Hospital for their wonderful care.

Cremation has taken place.  A private graveside service at Mickle Memorial Cemetery in Gravenhurst will be held in the spring.

Memorial donations to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital or the Halton County Radial Railway can be made in Ron’s honour.
