It is with love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruth Darleen Cox, who passed peacefully on June 28, 2026, in Bracebridge, Ontario, with her loving family by her side. Born on February 14, 1938, in Woodville, Ontario, Ruth lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and devotion to her family. She has now gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour.
Ruth was a devoted and loving mother to Paulette Wyville (David), Karen Park (Allan), and Bill Cox (Karen). She was a cherished grandmother to Jeremey, Melissa, Amanda, Richard, Graham, Julie, Nathan, and Rachel, and a proud great-grandmother to Landen, Grace, Chloe, Brayden, Asher, Oliver, Mason, Tarren, Jada, Shya, Nova, River, Shepherd, Hudson, and Fletcher.
She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings: David Nancekievill (Dawn), Elsie Thorogood (Bob), Bonnie Daoust (John), and Phil Nancekievill (Kitty), and was predeceased by her brother Jon Nancekievill (Carolyn).
Ruth was a lifetime member of the Severn Fall Fair and found great joy in crocheting and knitting. She lovingly created many beautiful handmade pieces, including special tablecloths for those she cared about. Fondly known as “The Butterfly Lady,” Ruth’s creativity and generosity touched many lives.
She will always be remembered for her warmth, her gentle spirit, and her open door - there was always a meal to share and a place at her table. Ruth was a truly sweet woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 375 Westmount Drive North, Orillia. Family and friends are invited to drop in between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.
In memory of Ruth, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
