BODRI, Steve -

It is with both profound sorrow and solace that we announce the passing of Steve Bodri, 82, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 12th, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Steve was the last of three brothers.

Born in Mor, Hungary in 1939, he immigrated to Canada in 1957 during the Hungarian Revolution. He was not successful in leaving on his first attempt but after being sent home he immediately tried again and was successful. Arriving in Montreal he made his way to Toronto with his brother Frank to stay with their Aunt. He gained employment in factories and was even sent to Northern Ontario to work on the railroad where he remarked that the food was excellent, mosquitos large and the work grueling.

He met our Mom, Elisabeth, in the spring of 1961 and they were married in October of the same year. Dad and Mom had four children: Gabrielle, Susanne, Stephen and Lisa. Finding it hard to build their dream home in Toronto they moved to Gravenhurst in 1971. Dad went on to rekindle his passion for carpentry and started a successful General Contracting business in Muskoka.

Dad was a proud and determined man. He loved building, hunting, golfing, diving and fixing things. Dad would never throw anything out and was amazing at making something new out of many old parts.

Mom and Dad looked forward to their annual Florida winter get away to see friends, play golf, bingo and bocce ball. So many memories were shared over the 30 years of snowbird getaways.

Dad continued to enjoy the ongoing activities at the cottage throughout his last years; chasing the groundhog and chipmunks, fixing tools with his grandkids, happy hour time, relaxed days on the deck and firepit lessons.

Steve will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Elisabeth, of 60 years; his children Gabrielle Bodri, Susanne Shirriff (Dave), Stephen Bodri (Trisha), and Lisa Kurina (David) and cherished Opa of Branden, Michael, Kayla, Matthew, and Alexander.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Friday, September 24th, 2021 at 11:00 AM. A celebration of life meal and reception will follow at the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre located at 275 Steamship Bay, Gravenhurst. Proof of identity and a copy of your vaccination certificate is required to attend per Government requirements.

Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters would be greatly appreciated and may be made through Cavill Funeral Home. Personal condolences and memories may be shared at www.cavillfuneralhome.com.
