Stewart McIntosh

June 2, 1953 — March 20, 2026

Gravenhurst

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Stewart “Stew” McIntosh, age 72, at his home in Gravenhurst on March 20, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Stew was a coronation baby born in Toronto on June 2, 1953. He had his picture featured in the newspaper and, as a memento, received a silver spoon engraved by the Governor General, which is still with the family today. He was always proud of the fact that he was a coronation baby.

He is survived by his wife Cathy of 51 years, daughter Kelly (Mike), son Stew Jr (Danielle), sister Heather Johnston (late Larry), and grandchildren Briana, Zara, Charlotte, Cadence, Austin, and Palmer. Brother-in-law to Marie & Gary Greenall, Marlene & Lyle Niemi, Kelly & Ian Hunter, and Sandy McIntosh. He was well-loved by his nieces and nephews.

Stew was predeceased by his parents, Stewart and Grace McIntosh, brother Henry McIntosh, and best friend Reg Fairweather.

Stew enjoyed a sales career in the automotive industry and worked for such companies as Magna and Allied Signal. His career necessitated moves to Chatham, Collingwood, and eventually Windsor, where for 10 years he commuted daily to work in Michigan.

The space program was always a great interest to Stew, and he especially enjoyed a trip to the Florida Space Centre in 1985.

Stew's great joy in life was spending time at his cottage in Muskoka, which he and Cathy bought in 1999. He didn't hesitate to drive from Windsor to Muskoka every summer weekend. They retired to the cottage before moving to Gravenhurst in 2019.

Upon retirement, Stew looked forward to the Saturday edition of the Toronto Star and would spend hours solving the crossword puzzles.

Stew made lifelong friends with the Catherall, King, Darragh, and Funnell families.

His precious pets, Mac and Tilly, brought him great joy.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff from the Ontario Health at Home Program, Care Partners Support Services, and Paramed Nursing Agency. Special thanks to Dr. Hammell for her care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Andy's House Hospice Muskoka. (https://www.hospicemuskoka.com/andyshouse)

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will follow at a later date.
