Astrid Marr

October 7, 1949 — December 14, 2021

Gravenhurst

Born October 7th 1949. Passed away December 14th 2021 surrounded by loved ones at SMMH in Bracebridge.

Beloved Wife of 23 years to Jim Marr and Mother to Krista, Johnny, Eric, Jen and second mom to many more.  Oma to Ayla, Carrick, Bailey, Oliver and Eloise and great Oma to Paige.  Sister to Erica, Olaf, Joe, Ines and Rolf.

She was a true artist in every sense, from stained glass to macramé. No media was untouched by her hands. Renowned for her  spectacular gardens. Anyone that has been blessed to have known her will remember her infamous garden tours and has probably received  a handmade gift of a unique and heart felt piece.

Astrid was a woman that constantly improved herself and was not afraid to try something new, like getting a tattoo at 70 or taking Thai chi classes for over 20 years. Her sword skills were off the charts.

Her working years were spent doing what she loved.  Hair.  As a child she dreamed about working at a hair salon and when she was old enough she would live that dream for the next 50 years. Moving to Gravenhurst in 1984 she opened her first shop, ”Astrid's Hair Design” in Gravenhurst where she perfected her craft while at the same time befriending everyone that walked in.

Her later years she spent exploring all forms of art.  Mastering painting, encaustic, pottery, fibre and glasswork, her hands were never idle.  Her studio was full of whatever medium she was currently working on as well as countless jars of random bits. Single minded when she was in her art zone, it was rare to find projects left unattended to.

Astrid was a world traveler.  Her excitement was contagious when she spoke of her trips to Europe with her daughter Krista.

This woman was bad ass in life and will be just as bad ass in heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her gardens in the Spring.
