My name is Ernest William Smith, if you are reading this I have passed to another realm.  I am finally with my sweetheart Mable, my wife and love of 74 years.

I was born October 19, 1928, in Baysville, Ontario.  My parents are Phoebe Shannon Smith and Charles William Smith.  My mom Phoebe was born in Baysville and my dad Charles was born in Lancashire, England. There is more history, but this is about Me.

I was born in a farmhouse just east of Baysville, where my parents farmed, I am the third child, the youngest of three. Elizabeth Jane who died very young was the first born. My sister Alice Isabella was the second child and then me, Ernest William.

I grew up in Baysville surrounded by family.  I was a rascal, my sister Alice tried to tame me, but was pretty much unsuccessful.

My dad Charles worked in the bush, logging during the winter, and when I was old enough I joined him.

This experience helped me acquire similar jobs until I left the confines of Baysville.

I moved south to be with my mom, she lived in Gravenhurst…..I then worked at Rubberset Co. Canada, and there I met the love of my life Mable, who is waiting for me.

We dated awhile then I popped the question and the most beautiful girl in the world said yes.….my heart was so full of love and I knew this was forever.

We married May 10, 1947…..this is the beginning of my life story…..a story of love and enjoying an incredible family.

Mable’s mom died after childbirth, and a decision had to be made as Clara had left behind a family.  With Mable being the oldest at 17 years old…..the youngest were 2 and 1 years old, what was I to do? We loved the girls like our own…..so we decided they would be part of our family.  Nancy and Shirley.

Mable and I too wanted our own family..…after two miscarriages we finally succeeded in having a pregnancy come full term, her name is Brenda, then Sandy, Gord and Kev....so we had a full house.

My career went from lumber to trucking, which was my third love after Mable and my family.

There are so many memories, but far too many stories for this small space.

My children grew and gave us grandchildren, the most incredible gifts, Cori, Erin, Amanda, Ashley, Timothy and Matthew.  Wonderful gifts that our children shared which made our lives full.

I am leaving behind my great grandchildren.  I didn’t expect this gift, but I am lucky enough to have been able to meet them all…..Haileigh, Owen, Benjamin, Liam and little Jade. Yes I am a very proud grandfather.

Well I do want to say my goodbyes to my sister-in-law Shirley, who is still earthbound.

Thank you for being so devoted to me during this difficult time,  I hope we will be together soon. But not until you are ready.....

So I am off, I have hugs to get from my friends and family in the next realm.

Love you all and will see you when you are ready!  “BE GOOD”

Hugs

Ernie aka Dad, Daddy, Uncle Ernie, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa

Love you Dad....the Kids
