Gary George Jackson

February 28, 1938 ~ December 13, 2021 (age 83)

Obituary

Surrounded by his loving children and closest friend, Gary George Jackson passed away December 13, 2021 at the age of 83.  Gary was a cottage and business sign maker and, with his business partner and life-long friend Mike Malone, was a fixture at Muskoka farmer and craft markets. He loved the camaraderie of the other crafts people and kibitzing with customers - many who became close and valued friends. Anyone crossing his path was treated to a joke and a friendly wave.  Gary made friends in the line at the grocery store, at the Timmy’s takeout window or the Canadian Tire gas bar.  Gary loved people and they loved him.

Born in Mimico, Ontario, Gary had a rich and interesting life, camping at the Forks of the Credit, working the fire towers in Temagami, scaling trees and doing field work for the Lands and Forest Department.  Even during his years as a successful insurance representative, Gary was never far from nature.  His happiest times were spent in a canoe or small motor boat heading to his cabin in the woods.  His workshop was a tidy and fascinating place where he created signs and furniture, and poured a cup of coffee for anyone who happened by.  Gary loved all animals, always had a dog riding shotgun in his truck (most recently his beloved Gunner), and took great care of the hungry squirrels who frequented his feeder.

Gary was a storyteller, and we all looked forward to his frequent calls that usually began, “Did I tell you the one about…?”  His own life provided Gary with endless great stories of adventures, and memories of friendship and family.  He felt very blessed to have had such a great run.

Gary was the son of George Samuel and Lillian Irene Jackson (née Clemmens), brother to Bill, Gail, and Glenn Jackson.  He was the very proud father of Ginny (Andrew), Shari (Mike), Doug (Andrea), and Grandpa to eight grandchildren (who treasure the memories of the annual canoe trips in Algonquin) and three great grandchildren.  Gary will be remembered with fondness by the mother of his children, Barbara Jackson. He will be forever grateful for the care and friendship he received from his Nurse Practitioner, Suzanne Corby.

A private family service will be held in the spring.

In memory of Gary, please take a moment to say a kind word to a stranger or share a joke with a friend.
